In His Hands Child Development Center opened its doors to the public in August of 1999. Brenda Shepherd, the Parent’s Day Out/Preschool Director, saw the need for servicing full-time extended care of the two programs that she was overseeing. The vision of offering quality childcare with a Christian environment as well as academic structure started there, and the vision became a reality in the fall of 1999. She took the vision to First Methodist Church's Program Director, Francie Pittman, and the Children’s Minister, Lee Ann Love, and together, they developed a plan to present to the body of the church and the church's leadership boards.
The church voted to begin In His Hands as a ministry of their church. Members were asked to invest in the children of the church and community by purchasing “stock” through donations of $25 per individual or couple. This would help with the needed start-up fees of $3000. They had a campaign for members to "Invest In Our Future...Invest in Our Children" by asking members to be one of the "First 120 Believers" to donate to this ministry. They received more than enough support from the church to begin the ministry!
"In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd numbered about one hundred twenty persons)...." -Acts 1:15
In His Hands maintains waiting lists in many of the classrooms that can not be expanded due to facility space. Since its start, IHH has received the Reader's Choice Award numerous times for Best Daycare.
